The Lightning X Vented Chest Seal is designed to provide reliable vented chest seal capability for first responders, law enforcement, and prepared civilians who need a quality vented seal at an accessible price point. The channeled flap vent design uses a self-regulating mechanism: during exhalation, the channeled flaps open to allow air and fluids to escape; during inhalation, the negative pressure differential causes the flaps to close against the adhesive surface, preventing atmospheric air from entering. The 4-vent configuration maximizes venting redundancy — if one or two vents become obstructed, the remaining vents continue to function.
The Lightning X Vented Chest Seal includes a 4-ply 4" × 4" sterile gauze pad with each package — an unusual inclusion in this product category. The gauze pad is intended for wound site preparation (clearing blood and moisture) before seal application, supporting better adhesion. The seal itself measures 6.6" round with 1.25" side tabs, and the two-tab design provides both a primary application grip and a secondary burping handle. Application Instructions
- Prepare wound site: Remove clothing, use the included 4" × 4" gauze pad to clear blood and moisture from the wound site and surrounding skin area.
- Open package: Tear at the notch; avoid contacting the adhesive surface.
- Align and apply: Center the 6.6" seal over the wound using the transparent backing for accuracy. Press the large red pull tab side first, then smooth the seal outward from the center.
- Treat exit wound: Apply a second seal to any exit wound. The gauze pad from the second package can be used for wound site preparation.
- Monitor and burp if needed: If signs of tension develop, use the two-tab design to lift the seal edge and release pressure, then re-apply firmly.
