Product Overview

Wound packing is the single most important hands-on skill in hemorrhage control — and it is among the most difficult to teach without a realistic training medium. Classroom instruction can explain the technique; only hands-on practice with a simulated bleeding wound builds the muscle memory, confidence, and mechanical skill to perform wound packing under stress. The TrueClot® system was developed under U.S. Department of Defense (OSD) SBIR contract W81XWH-11-C-0062 specifically to address this training gap.

The hallmark feature of TrueClot® training systems is the blood simulant chemistry: TrueClot® Blood Simulant forms realistic simulated blood clots when it contacts the TrueClot® Simulated Hemostatic Gauze — visually demonstrating to trainees that their packing technique is creating the hemostatic interface needed to stop bleeding. This real-time feedback mechanism dramatically improves training effectiveness compared to dry simulations where the trainee has no visual confirmation of correct technique.

The Basic Packing Trainer Instructor's Kit is structured for a class of approximately 6–10 students, combining the professional TrueClot® Task Trainer (with motorized blood simulant pump) for instructor demonstration with the LUNA TrueClot Basic Packing Trainer individual student kits for simultaneous hands-on practice. Both wet (active bleeding simulation) and dry modes are supported — dry mode allows repeated technique reps without fluid management overhead, wet mode provides the full sensory realism needed for advanced training.

The Task Trainer's realistic GSW wound model prepares trainees for the depth, geometry, and packing resistance of high-velocity gunshot wounds.
