Hypothermia is part of the lethal triad in trauma, alongside coagulopathy and acidosis — a cycle where each element worsens the others. In the field, heat loss from a trauma casualty occurs through conduction, convection, radiation, and evaporation, with all four mechanisms potentially active simultaneously in austere environments. The TacMed™ Emergency Bivvy provides full-body coverage that addresses all four heat loss pathways simultaneously: the heat-reflective interior reflects radiant heat back to the patient, the heavy-duty outer shell blocks convective wind loss, and the head-to-toe Velcro closure minimizes conductive and evaporative loss.

The Bivvy's coyote brown exterior supports operational concealment requirements in tactical environments — a feature absent from standard orange or silver mylar blankets that may compromise position awareness. Despite its heavy-duty construction, the Bivvy folds to a pack size of just 5.5 × 2.5 inches — small enough to carry in a cargo pocket or strap to a patrol bag. It deploys in seconds by unfolding and inserting the casualty, making it practical even under fire or in confined spaces.

Unlike disposable foil blankets or thin mylar wraps, the TacMed™ Emergency Bivvy is constructed from a durable material rated for rough handling in mission environments — resisting tearing and delamination that would compromise thermal performance. The Bivvy can also serve as a litter pad for patient movement over short distances, providing thermal protection simultaneously with patient transport.
